Common questions
Where do the prices come from?
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics "Average Price Data" series, published monthly with the Consumer Price Index. They are averages paid by urban consumers, not the price at your local store. State electricity, natural gas, and gasoline prices come from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). StapleWatch is independent and not affiliated with the BLS or the EIA.
Can I see prices for my state?
Partly, with Pro. Pick your state in Settings > Location or from the region chip at the top of the Prices tab. Electricity and natural gas show your state's own price for all 50 states and DC, and gasoline does for California, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Washington. These come from the EIA and usually run a month or two behind the grocery numbers. BLS does not publish grocery prices by state, only for the U.S. and four regions, so grocery items show your region's average (for example "West avg") and say so. Pro also adds a Compare states ranking for electricity, natural gas, and gasoline.
Why hasn't a price changed?
BLS publishes once a month, usually between the 10th and 15th. Use Settings > Refresh now to check for new data. Some regional series are discontinued by BLS; the app then shows the U.S. average and says so.
I bought Pro but it isn't unlocked.
Open Settings > Upgrade to Pro > Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com.
Widgets show old data.
Open the app once so it can download the latest month; widgets refresh right after.
How do I stop personalized ads?
Go to iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking and turn StapleWatch off. Pro removes ads entirely.
